Thread OP
Algonquin Illinois
I have many starter sedum plants, have many rocks, starting this weekend. I have questions.
How do you prepare the base where the rocks, and plants rest on. How do you control the weeds from invading the area while keeping enough dirt to grow the plants.
2nd question....does the area have to be completely in sun.

Live in zone 5, (more like zone 4) in my opinion. Northwest suburb of Chicago, about 15+ miles from the Wisconsin border.

Most rock garden plants require good drainage......so it is important to encorporate course sand, or gravel into the base.
Other people here are more expert than I am, but it is gardening season and every one is slow on the forums.

Thanks, this was timely. I've been thinking of making some new garden areas using rocks and sempervivums with other succulents.
