I have two August Sage Salvia growing very well in my yard. I bought them as plants. The hummingbirds, bees and butterflies love them. They are so low maintenance I decided to try and grow more salvia. I'm trying to grow from seed because I thought it would be more economical and I could find the colors I wanted.

I purchased Salvia Red Flare, Victoria Blue, and another one that's purple (I can't remember the name of it) from Park Seed. All of them germinate, grow about 4 leaves sometimes only 2 leaves then die. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I don't grow indoors because I don't have grow lights. I waited until it was above 65 degrees (which is most of the year here) and I kept the soil moist until the seeds germinated.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

@honeyx4 I'm thinking you meant to say Autumn Sage when you said August Sage.

If the salvia coccinea varieties reseed, I'm happy to get extra plants, but I don't (intentionally) grow plants from seed.

Hopefully, some other who grow plants from seeds, will chime in to help you out. Two members that I can think of that grow salvias from seed are......

@Gerris2 and @FBTS could you offer some info and tips to help out Honey?

Does it look like the seedlings are damping off?

I'm sorry I'm not sure I know what you mean by damping off. I didn't notice anything disturbing about the seedlings.
One day they were there showing promise and filling me with hope and anticipation and the next day they were gone.
I have tried this 6 times with the same outcome.

I avoid damping off conditions by using bagged commercially available seed starting medium.

Good luck!
