We have a listing for the species (notice spelling) Orchid (Liparis nugentiae) but no listing for a cultivar named 'Australia' and doing a google search, I could not find one with that name either. Maybe the "Australia" is due to the fact that it's found in Queensland, Australia?

Yes, you are correct. Longwood often lists the country of origin.

The fact that the word 'Australia' isn't quoted on the sign would also suggest it is not a cultivar/clonal name.

I don't think you've made an error, the orchid in your photo looks correct for the species, L. nugentiae according to this page: http://www.orchidspecies.com/i...
