Always check for spider mites if your leaves start looking yellowish. Run the leaves between your thumb and finger, and if the fingers come away reddish looking then you have mites.
You can keep spider mites pretty much under control just by spraying the plant with water every few days. They hate moisture, love it when it's warm and dry.
Just from my experience, it's almost impossible to over-water or over fertilize Brugmansia. They're hungry thirsty beasts. I water mine generously unless we've had steady, really heavy rain.
