That's a lovely collection of ornamental peppers, Allison. A friend of mine got me started on the ornamentals last year, and I'm so glad she did. They are a little slow to get started, but considering that a 4" pot costs 7.99 at the nursery, it's well worth the effort. I'm growing Purple Flash also this year. I was at the Philadelphia International Flower Show in March, and would you believe they had a separate judging category for this pepper? The foliage was awesome (none had fruit yet).

I love the ornamental peppers for my fall containers. I grew Black Pearl last year, and this year I'm adding Medusa and Purple Flash.

yes Franklin... the peppers are towards the bottom...

none of my peppers did well last year Lina.. including the black pearls ... hope this year goes better.. but I can't wait to see the purple flash.. looks so cool .. what's nice about the ornamentals is that in fall I was taking the dried up fruits and tossing them around the one bed I let self seed every year... every year but last ... but the self seeded ones are always a nice surprise popping up here & there... growing amongst the flowers .. I even moved a few two years ago so we can see them better.. while doing clean up today.. I tossed around a ton of datura seeds I found in the dried up pods from last year.. love that bed!!!

Allison: I have started all of my ornamentals under grow lights, and let them get as large as possible before finally putting them outside. My black pearls were fabulous last year. The Medusas were much slower; this year, they seem to be doing better. I keep mine in deep 4" pots until late summer when I transplant them to containers. They kept going through November, when I finally pulled them to put in some winter greens.

Nice to know these can self-seed, although mine are always destined for containers.

I usually stick some that I started inside in containers as well... they usually grow larger for me with the soil being warmer.. it was just too cold & wet here last year

It was cold, cloudy, and wet here last year until about August. We only had about a month of good hot sunny weather. I think much of this part of the country had that weather.

Some of my Holy Mole peppers under lights are starting to form flowers already!! Unfortunately, I'm engaged in battle with white flies right now; I finally resorted to spraying with my soap/oil/water mixture. Hate having to do it, but I can't risk losing all of these either. They are targeting the peppers (both edible and ornamental) and my eggplant. So far, no problems with the tomatoes or herbs (fingers crossed they won't get to the tomatoes).

Hoping the warm weather continues so I can start moving things outdoors. I do have a fan running 24/7 now on low speed trying to move more air, but I think the white flies came from my potting mix. Sad

I know some don't taste good... but if they were treated with systemic or something like that you wouldn't want to eat them.. always have to read the labels or packages.. some are so darn hot you wouldn't want to eat them either.. I read somewhere black pearl is so hot it could take an hour to loose the heat.. I think there are a few that are poisonous.. but maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in

I found this information about peppers:

"Q. Are ornamental varieties of chiles poisonous?

A. There are absolutely no varieties of peppers that are poisonous, all capsicum species are edible. Some of the ornamental varieties just don't taste very good, while others are extremely hot or pungent which may lead to this misconception. However there is an ornamental plant called a False Jerusalem Cherry, botanical name, Solanum Capsicastrum, this plant is poisonous and is not intended for consumption, it is not a chile plant only a relative. "

This is the link to that quote:
