Hi! It's saying that Puna is an invalid genus (trying to add my Puna mandragora). Is there another name
I could add it under? Thanks!

I see the Cat of Life has it listed, but it's a synonym for other names, like tephrocactus .

The Catalogue of Life doesn't list Puna as a genus, so it's no longer a genus, and Puna mandragora apparently is a highly obsolete species name because it isn't even listed as a synonym of any other species in any of the major taxonomic databases.

I just saw a reference that said: Tephrocactus mandragora is a synonym of Maihueniopsis minuta. Could that be it, Lindsey?

If you're going to chase down an ID for your plant, Lindsey, I might have a starting point for you. Most of the Puna species became species of Maihueniopsis. There once was a species called Maihueniopsis mandragora, but it's now a synonym for Maihueniopsis glomerata.

I don't know a thing about Cacti and I have a feeling that many look a lot alike. One for comparison that Lindsey's plant looks a lot like is

~ I'm an old gal who still loves playing in the dirt!
~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot!

I'm no good at ID's for cacti, but I don't think her plant is the paper spine. Small segments of my cacti don't look much like Lindsey's.

Karen, Smiling you are better at Cacti ID than I am. The only Cactus that I've ever seen growing here in Florida are:
Nopal (Opuntia ficus-indica)
Eastern Prickly Pear (Opuntia humifusa)
