How do you get them to work? What type of bottle? I've used a water bottle and a wine bottle. It just empties into the soil. I'm assuming the seal is not good? These are from Harbor Freight.

I know this is an old post. The caps leak if you don't tightly get them onto the bottle.
So we have given up on them.......we use PVC pipes put into the ground and fill them so the water goes to the roots. You can also use the pvc pipes to tie up the plants!

Henderman;
I height can vary depends on that you have. For my perennial Hibiscus a 5 foot section works well, I also use shoe strings to tie up the plant. I have TX Star Red that is a small plant but use a 4 footer for it. TX Star Alba is huge so a 6 footer. Just regular size PVC not the wide stuff. I started this on the TX star last year and before I knew it, it shot upward to 6 foot.

I also have a tool to feed the roots for the Brugmansia. Scream if you want me to post it.

I'm intrigued. What's the diameter of the PVC?

I use the 2". Will get you a photo later when I finish my cup of tea.

I stand corrected, the photo shows 1" and here are some photos for you.

I'm all ears! I am all ears.

Do you find a longer length on the PVC will be better by providing more water for the plants?

I have done this in strawberry jars in years past. I also drilled holes along the length so all plants could receive ample moisture in the strawberry jar.

Hey Pod!! What was gifted to me is a Ross 1200C root feeder by the same friend that got me started with brugmansia after he found I planted them in my west garden bed. Photo

The longer the pipe the more water it will hold. I'm about to add another pipe to the larger Clematis pot, she dries out fast.
