As some of you know I have had both hips replaced this winter after a couple-3 years of being crippled up. Now that I can walk and drive again I have been searching very had for a place I can stand to live in and a climate in which plants can actually grow in. I was not lucky enough to find one in the best climate (Coast range, average max 65, min 45) so had to settle for one that is only about 10 degrees cooler than this hell-on-earth Spokane is. But that is much better than being here in this bleak, gray and dead hellhole.
I have been told my offer was accepted on a place in Clatskanie (pronounced clatskanEYE), OR. and am waiting for written confirmation right now. I have been very ill since we got hot again in July, this happens each Hell-on-earth season here and in the Hell-frozen-over season I suffer from finger and toe tissue death due to pernio and Raynaud's syndrome.
The new place has a nice big shop (in a not so good spot) and a great big house that needs more work than I cared to do at my age......BUT it is 4 acres with a creek running through it, way off the road and REAL trees and plants and green and lush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And yet much closer to town than my flower farm was.
Also it has a well and a septic tank and no neighbors pouring concrete at 7AM, 20 feet from my head when I just got to bed at 3:30AM(after one of my marathon driving trips to look at property)
It doesn't have reasonable internet(satelite) so I will be very limited and resricted in use for a very high price, perhaps I will save enough on water and sewer bills to make up for it.
Anyway since I will be way to busy after closing on it to do anything but work on moving I do not foresee being able to sell any lily bulbs this fall. I do plan to move much of my yard but I do not think I will be able to dig any extra.
Right now I have dug the dry bulbs and have the spare bulbs on sale on The Blooming Action. If anyone wants those you can just email me direct, price will be the same, and shipping is usually less that it calculates to for larger orders (it is just hard to figure in advance) so I wil adjust if that is the case. It may take a few days to get an answer out of me as I may be traveling.
The house was abandoned for a few years and I have to have things checked out and get a roofer, arborist, a custom tractor work guy in to work up the ground before the rains start and who knows what else. I also have to do new floors on most of it and paint, inside and out......And I know virtually nobody there.
I do not foresee being able to do any more sales for the next year or 2 except for seeds.
The house is 3 bedroom and once I get the downstairs liveable I will be moving, coming back for my lily bulbs later. Or it may take me until early fall to move, I don't move too fast anymore, still have issues with the legs, including residual nerve damage on the right and painful bursitis on the left (common after hip surgery). And there are other issues with my back that cannot be fixed. getting old SUCKS!
