Depends what type of plant it is. Some potted plants are really not tolerant of excessive summer heat, so at times I have to reposition some plants in a shadier spot. Some are just too thirsty, since they are grown in containers, so I have to step up watering during this long dry season. A lot of factors will influence it, humidity, watering, temperatures. We got varying growing areas, ours is very dry, much hotter, zero rainfall for about 6 months, while some areas elsewhere have much more rain.
Growing conditions change every season, so got to observe and adjust accordingly. My area is much drier and hotter, so some of my container plants rests a bit, appearing somewhat dormant, as it waits for cooler conditions to return in Fall. But I still water them enough to make sure the roots stays alive.
One thing I have learned too, if the plant is in obvious distress, do not apply fertilizers. Got to wait for it recover, otherwise it will just escalate the injury to the plant.
