Thread OP

Hi everyone,
I know it's a bit early yet but no harm in planning!
I have a balcony full of mostly young, mostly fruit and mostly seed grown plants.
I'm in zone 7 and in the last 5 years it's ranged from -6 to -16C (21 to 3F)in the coldest part of winter. I plan to leave everything outside for as long as possible and only bring them inside when it gets too cold.
For sure I'll have to bring in the avocados, citruses, chillies, mango, pomegranate etc.
But how do I protect my apple trees, kiwis and strawberries?
I have a completely pitch black basement. Would it be okay to put them there for a month or so in the worst weather or do they need light during dormancy?

Apples and strawberries need a winter. Bring the rest in, sooner than later, and buy some LED lights for your basement. That is what I do. Gene

I like the idea of planning..
Your garage would be the perfect place for all the plants.
As Gene said buy some LEd lights and you will be fine. Just remember you don't feed fertilizer to your plants in their dormant season Also water them as and when required. A week before the dormant season starts spray neem oil to all your plants.
