I saw this orchid
Thumb of 2018-08-25/tx_flower_child/5ffd43

and it had this tag
Thumb of 2018-08-25/tx_flower_child/a08592

Found two Oncidium in the database with similar names. Sorry not to link to them but it's a little difficult to do with my 'smart'phone.

So anyway, do y'all have any suggestions about where or whether to post the picture? Is it a new entry? Or possibly a synonym? Or possibly mislabeled?

Thanks for your help.

It does appear to be Oncidium Volcano Hula Halau 'Volcano Queen'.

Volcano Hula Halau is the grex or hybrid name. Volcano Queen is the clonal name. You would post it under that full name. Similar names do not mean much. If there are no exact entries in the database and if your posting is accepted then I would think that you would earn acorns.

It requires a new entry, as the existing two were only the grex and a different clone. I have created an entry for it here:

Orchid (Oncidium Volcano Hula Halau 'Volcano Queen')

Please feel free to upload your photo to it.

Also, I am able to modify the database and add missing entries, so if you can't find an exact match (or are having difficulty locating the right entry), please feel free to call me to the conversation or treemail me directly and I will try to help.

Thanks. I still haven't posted a picture of the Oncidium Alliance. I'll have to switch over to my phone to post them. It's a pain because I'll start typing on my keyboard and wonder why what I'm typing isn't displaying on my phone. Duh.

I might even have some other orchids to add. I remember looking to see if some were already in the database but didn't make a note of any that were. I'll let you know if I think I have something new and no worries if I'm wrong. I'm just playing with the camera on my new phone.

Should I keep each my orchid questions separate? Seems like it might be easier to find them again.

Not only do I love these beautiful plants, but some of the names really make me grin.

That's up to you - I don't mind individual threads for each Orchid entry, but you are also free to create a thread specifically for your Orchid photos.

They are beautiful, aren't they? Some of the names are unpronounceable, others are amusing and a few are just cringeworthy Rolling my eyes.

Texas, I would say, if you have a lot of single Orchids, I would prefer if they are combined into one thread. An occasional single Orchid is fine by itself. Have fun!!
....trying to avoid 20 threads with one Orchid each.... Smiling

Ursala, it's fine with me to go with one thread. Since I've sorta jumped into this forum I didn't know the best way to go about it. On one hand I thought maybe some members would only be interested in particular ones, thus a post for each one. On the other hand, I thought well maybe members would like to read 'em altogether. And on the other hand, I thought how we do things any which way in the Texas forum. And lastly, on the remaining hand, I'm very glad that you settled it. Thanks. Running out of hands.

I'm finding it saves me a lot of steps too. Since I got Micro 10, I can't find a way to search by tags, but I can come back to the monthly blooms and see what I posted. LOL! Great when the memory starts slipping. I do keep a journal, but it doesn't have pictures . That's the next step.

Carol — I started keeping a journal and was doing really good and then I don't know what happened but I slowly started losing track and of course there's no way to go back. Maybe the heat fried my brain.

So I guess I should wait until September because amazingly it's rapidly approaching. Or - how does that work? Just add to whatever month whenever you have something to share during that month, or do it all at once for the month? Oh never mind. I'll just take a look at other months and bet I can figure it out. It's been a day and I'm rambling. :}

Yeh, just share photos if /as you have them for that month. If nothing picture worthy, just enjoy those of others. Always lots going on here.

Texas, we always start up a new thread at the first day of the month and we simply post our current blooms into those. Easy as pie! Smiling

Cool. Thanks for letting me know.

One of my favorite florists is having a workshop on growing orchids sometime soon. Attendees have the option to BOGO which I think means buy one and get one at half off. Would be better if it meant buy one get one.
