This sempervivum sure looks a lot like a jovibarba heuffelii to me. I looked at our database and Lynn's and Sandi's both have the same growth pattern - more like a j. heuff.

This was a one of the plugs that I had purchased from Mountain Crest. I have 3 plantings. I'll go out and take pics this morning.

Sandi, I just checked my notes and I actually got that one from your last summer. I'm wondering if it had a wrong ID on it.

I remember trading you one of the plugs. There is the possibility that it has been mislabeled. I looked on the internet for other pics of S. 'Lime Frost', only to find one on the North Hills Nursery website. Here are the pics of my 3 different plantings. The only one that is taking on a growth pattern of a heuff is the last one pictured that is growing in a strawberry pot. We will have to investigate this!!

Thanks for the pictures. The bottom 2 pictures seem to have a different form and leaf shape than the top two.

All looked alike initially before planting in different areas of my yard. The first picture is of 'Lime Frost' planted in a xeric garden with little water and extreme full sun. The second and third photo are of the same plant( one from the side and one from the top). That semp is plant in my back yard where it gets full sun and daily water. The last photo is of the "Lime Frost' planted in a strawberry pot placed under my covered deck receiving partial shade some of the day and water every third day.

Interesting. Mine is in a hypertufa pot with about 6 hrs. of sun a day, and it's been very, very dry.

Ok....so I updated my list. I may have left off a few. Those with asterisks are available for trade. Also, I purchased 2 trays from Mountain Crest Gardens- one semp tray and 1 heuff tray for anyone interested.
Coming from MCG:
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Arach Pygmalion
Arach Rubrum
Cleveland Morgan
Compte de Congae
Firebird
Mystic
Pacific Red Rose
Somerwise
Tectorum Sunset
Tectorum Tokajense
Clara Noyes
As far as heuffs, I will not know until the tray arrives. But I will have 10 different varieties. Anyone interested tree mail me!! I'm all ears!

Sandi, the first pic (of the four) definitely looks like a Jovibarba hirta, the second pic somewhat, but not as clear. The last two pics could be heuffelii or not.

If you want to know for sure, carefully dig it up and wash the dirt off. Heuffelii will have the rosettes emerging directly from a common root and no stolons. Examine carefully, because there are semps that have very short stolons. Dry a day or two after washing, then replant.

Definitely interested in Pacific Red Rose, once you get enough to trade.

I will check mine when I get back home. Last time I looked at them though, they were looking like a semp. Wonder what the parentage is?

S. 'Lime Frost' can be deceiving. I thought mine also looked like a Jovi, or heuff., until now.
It grows it's offsets on very short stolens so looks like they are growing from the parent root as they enlarge. Not so.
Here it is last year, Oct 2011.

Sandi, mine looks very much like Lynn's does right now, including the chicks on stolons. Strange plant, but very pretty! I'll try to get a picture this weekend too.

It would be fascinating to find out what the parentage is of this unusual semp.

Dahtzu, I am just a beginner, but thanks for the compliment. *Blush* I have this weird mind that is always asking questions that just have to be answered. If you say that the "sky is blue" it asks "how do you know that?" "what shade of blue" "is your blue experience the same as mine?" "Is it blue because wind blows (in the past)?" I try to pay attention when appropriate and try to remember but also do some experimentation to find things out. Sometimes it drives me nuts and sometimes it irritates people, but not much I can do about the way it works. Shrug!

At least your mind works! Sure wish I had more of what you have.
I'm reading and trying to remember what is what yet they all will always be "Hen & Chicks" to me. I totally love every picture I've seen, and you wouldn't believe how excited I get just walking in my yard and seeing the changes taking place on each.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Thumbs up LOL I need to think everyone.
