Early Warmth Followed by Frost

We had a heavy frost 4 nights in a row last week. The temperature dropped into the mid to upper 20s F and there was a rime of hoarfrost on the grass and plants and across the roofs of cars and houses.

I didn't get this into the article, but there is a meteroilogical difference between 'frost' and 'freeze'. A frost, or white frost, occurs under a clear sky, is generally the result of radiational cooling - the heat of the day escaping into the clear sky - and clam winds and is accompanied by hoar frost, the rime of frozen dew that edges leaves and blossoms. A freeze, or black freeze often occurs on cloudy, even windy nights, turns everything black and is basically the end of the growing season.
