Hi everyone, I managed to get some Adenium seedlings to sprout. I've never been successful before so I'm excited about growing them. I was wondering when can I start giving them fertilizer? I got some Jobe's organic fertilizer and I was wondering if I could use that on the seedlings? I have them in a mix of perlite, Happy Frog potting soil, and some coarse sand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

fertilize now ... never used Jobe's, but should be okay to use ...

keep potting media damp, but not wet ... once you start to see the main upright stems begin to thicken and increase in diameter - start cutting back on the amount of water ....< ignore that once plants are established in pots ...water thoroughly and at least every 7 days during hot summer days

Once established - think: wet season - dry season ...... (wet season = summer months - dry season = dormant winter months )

also.... never used Happy Frog potting soil - but as long as it drains fast - it should be okay to use ...

also - never let adeniums sit in water - excessive water will kill adeniums

bring the adeniums indoors at the first hint of frost or freezing night-time lows ... water thoroughly (without fertilizer) before making the move ....

place near a south (east or west) facing window - or - use grow lights

once indoors - do not water again for 3 months - and then, only sparingly

oh yeah ....after awhile indoors - leaves will fall off ...this perfectly normal & signals the beginning of dormancy ....

Thanks so much James for the info. I copied and pasted it on a document so I have a reference. I put my seedlings back outside,but if it starts raining again, I'll bring them back in. Would a south facing window be too much for them?

this time of year ...your adeniums are better off outside ..... if concerned they will get rained-on too much or even washed out ...move them under an eve or covered area ...

when you have to bring them inside ...a south facing window will work just fine ....

Ok I placed them under a patio table so that they're sheltered.

think you and I have had the same rains over the last few days ....

all of my adeniums have been out enjoying every last drop of that rainfall ...... since this past Saturday they have gotten over an inch of rainfall - now, assuming the rains have stopped, I can wait a full 7 days before watering (again) with hose .....

I'm so glad it's been raining here because we were under a severe drought last month. We have rain chances all this week even though they're low chances. It's nice not having to water everything lol.

same here ...it has been "Abnormally Dry" through-out the summer (bordering on "Moderate Drought) ...with very few free watering days

this week, through Wednesday night have 50% or better chances of rainfall .... plants are loving it

I'm hoping this Fall is wet? I think since last week we've had nearly 5 inches of rain. This week, we'll just have some showers mainly.
