wildflowers.. we also have those huge black flies and the deer flies are worse... leaves huge welts that itch forever. I must have a dozen or more of insect bites. Been careless out in the garden and didn't spray with deet first. That stuff works but I have leaned against the car with deet when it was still wet and that stuff takes the wax finish right off. I wonder if I've discovered a new paint /bug remover? Sighing!

gardengus... buffalo gnats/black flies is a good name for those guys .. they torture the horses...

Yuck but good to know the name! Thank you, Cinda! That's funny (not in a haha way) about the deer flies biting the head! I didn't realize that's what was doing that!

Yes, bumpl, those huge black ones are horse flies! They look like they're wearing big, dark sunglasses! Hilarious!

The biting bugs must be bad everywhere! Glare

Recently I have had several of these in my garden, the first time I have ever seen them, perhaps because they are at the Northern limit of their range here in Liverpool. They are Oedemera nobilis, the Swollen-thighed Beetle. Only the males have the impressive thighs.

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

I always thought these white tussock cats were kin to the caterpillar from "Danger Mouse"
