We recently cut down this pretty big pine tree that was blocking this amazing view. So I started to turn it into an outdoor patio area. Making the tree stump a table (there are patio chairs that goes with it that I haven't set up yet). But I need some ideas (perhaps with pictures) of what I could plant and put in this area to help make it look more complete. I realize this is a detached patio area but any rough ideas will help get me started. I'm not sure what zone I'm in but I live in York, Pennsylvania. Picture is below. i appreciate any help !

PS I am probably going to change the shape of the area so it doesn't look as boxy/square.

Hello Kyle, I just joined but I would love to assist you! So depending on the look you are going for you have many options. If I were you I would put a decorative pot on the existing trunk and fill the pot with some sort of bromeliad and have a cascading fern billowing out of it. Next to this area if you are hoping to have a sitting area I would include a simple water feature to soften any white noise in the area. Kyle, if you haven't changed the patio design yet, I have some good ideas for you. I am located in Pennsylvania, right around the corner from you. You can create an organically shaped patio using stamped concrete with interesting curves to really highlight your new outdoor space and enjoy the beautiful view. I'm not sure what kind of things you're looking for. Do you want to stick with shorter plants that won't block the view? If so I'd tend to suggest shrubs and perennials with lots of color. And trees if you don't want to stick with short and/or would like to have some shade over your patio. Those are what I'd favor. I like your idea for the stump-table; do you plan to put a tabletop on it then?
