I bought a plant this spring from "Stepables' they call Stachys densiflora 'alba', a very neat little creeper. I saved some seeds for a swap. I tried to find it in the Plant Database but no luck. I spent a few minutes on line, and the Catalog of Life does not include this species, or list it as a synonym. MOBOT lists Stachys minor, which sounds right but they have no photos. So I am at a dead end. I would like to put this in my Plant List, whatever it's true name.https://stepables.com/5/Stachys_densiflora_Alba.html

According to the CoL, Stachys densiflora is a synonym for S. officinalis subsp. officinalis
http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

You selected Stachys densiflora Benth., nom. superfl. This is a synonym for:
Accepted scientific name: Betonica officinalis subsp. officinalis (accepted name)

We have a listing for Betony (Betonica officinalis subsp. officinalis) but no listing for cultivar 'Alba'.

hank you Lin. Wow you are great.
I wonder if we could put a listing in for this. It seems quite distinct from the regular type, just 1" high, although the flower spikes are about 6". The blooms and seed heads do seem the same.

I found a site selling S. officinalis 'Alba' stating it grows 2 to 4 inches in height with a spread of 12 to 18 inches, which sounds like a creeper to me: https://plantlust.com/plants/2...

And, this site lists it as S. densiflora 'Alba' showing size of 3 to 6 inches high by 12 to 24 inches wide: http://www.allseasonplants.com...

Mary, I'm sure one of the database administrators will be along shortly to determine how to list it. I look forward to seeing your photos!

I believe S. officinalis grows to about 3 feet in height so I'm not sure that would be the correct entry for your plant if it's a low growing, creeper.

The notation "nom. superfl." usually means that it was an illegitimate name from the start. In that sense, it isn't even a true synonym.

I doubt very much that the Stepables plant is any variety of Stachys officinalis or Stachys officinalis subsp. officinalis. It's probably Stachys minor 'Alba,' which is quite short.
