Bookworm Plant Lover: Loves 'em all! Native Plants and Wildflowers Morning Glories Herbs Heirlooms

I'm curious what others like to grow indoors during the winter months. I've found that Heartsease (Viola tricolor) works well on a sunny windowsill, although it does get leggy after awhile. My challenge is not enough windows and the fact that we heat with wood, so the air is dry and its not always easy to regulate the temperature. Thinking about planting heliotrope soon. Has anyone else ever grown that over the winter?

Difficult to grow plants in the house because of white flies, scale, etc. You have to use insecticidal soap & be vigilant....I'm not, so Christmas cactus is my best plant....I have several varieties & colors.

I never had a problem with those (that I know of!), but I'm not very good at growing things in the house either. Winter is 6 or 7 months long though, so it's nice to have anything blooming or even just green and alive!

An update on my winter window garden! I have 2 pots of sweet marjoram, 2 African violets, paperwhites, mornings glories and heartsease growing. All are doing well! I love having some plants to fuss over right now. Smiling

The only winter indoor plants for me are when I start my tomato and pepper transplants from seed under lights on March 1st each year. Plant them out at the very end of April.

I have some carnivorous plants like tropical Sundews (capensis), Utricularias, tropical butterworts and a Nepenthes. Also 2 pixie blue African violets, 2 phals, 2 Dracula lotax orchids, 2 tiny cyclamen which I will no doubt kill as usual.

Wow...that's quite a collection.....do you plant your cyclamen outdoors in the spring?
