The ads should not be intrusive and confined to specific sections of the page. If you can let Dave know which browser and addons you have installed, that may help him narrow down the issue. The screenshot is a good start.

If you have contributed enough to the database, you can disable the ads entirely.

Hi Clint, I see you have a lot of contributions, so you can go into your profile settings and disable the ads.

Have the annoying things stopped popping up the last few days? Mine did, and I didn't do anything to my settings.

The only way to make them stop for me was turning off the ads on this site. That did it. It wasn't the most annoying ad I've ever seen.
