Thread OP

I've sent up a grow tent and I have high intensity leds I used for a reef tank. I also have a fogger to raise the humidity with some small computer fans to circulate the air. The RH is up to 60%. I'm trying to grow MacArthur palm seedlings, Christmas palms and various tropical tree seeds. Do I need to use a duct fan to exchange the air? My tent has a side zipper for access and a top zipper for venting. Do either of these need to be open? I did initially have mold prior to the fans. I've since used hydrogen peroxide and that seems to have taken care of it. Any other suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

I've got a grow tent I use for seeds and tropicals. I put a couple of computer fans in the duct areas. I have a thermometer in there that shows temps and humidity. If I'm starting seeds I also use heat mats under the seed trays. I don't have a fogger in mine since it stays very humid. When it gets too humid I open the zipper a ways to let some of it out. I have the LED lights going 12 hours a day. It's done very well. We've been on vacation, so right now it's filled with plants that don't like to be left for very long. I watered well before we left, and they were fine when we returned.

Thank you both for the replies! Karen do you know what your humidity normally is? I read you should shoot for 60%. Might promote too much mold growth.

Mine usually is around 45%. If I water a lot and close it up it has been up to 60% but I've never had a mold problem. One thing I forgot to mention is that if I think about it I open the zipper and leave the unit open for an hour or so a day just to air it out.

Wow this is a real scientific endeavor! I like it! I have germinated palm seeds before, never went through this!! I have a 'portable greenhouse' that I used to use all the time years ago to stash stuff in before I had my present greenhouse. It was easy to use, all you added was an electric space heater. If it got too dry I ran a kid's 'asthma' vaporizer inside. I never had the means to measure humidity though

I have never tried to grow tropical plants at home, it has always seemed to me a useless occupation. I have a tent for growing cannabis, I don't know anything about palm trees. In truth, in both cases, it is worth seriously straining and trying to make something grow. It is necessary to create special climatic conditions for the plant to germinate. To grow cannabis, you also need a special tent that would regulate the climate inside. Thanks to Bryan Giego review, I was able to sort it all out, especially in the tents. All of this is actually harder than it sounds. Growing any plant requires effort and time.
