I waited for this division for a very long time. I am so worried about losing the flowers, either to dryness in the house or overcompensation by me! Should i be spraying with water (the bird loves that) I immersed it in rain water two days ago and the top surface feels dry, but wondered how you know if it is safe to water again. I have a wood burning stove and always keep a pot of water on it, any other ideas? Thank You!

When I bring orchids into the house, usually its dry for Florida. I make a point to lay wet towels on the counters where the orchids sit and keep them wet at night. For the hanging plants I also hang wet towels near or over them. If your windows are fogged up in the mornings you know you've got the humidity up nicely.

Its healthy for people and animals too. Cool bird BTW. Is it a toucan?

He is an Ivory billed aracari (miniature toucan)., good bird except that he likes to try to ea compost, but he is very gentle and let's me take it out of his mouth. I had a bird in the past that used to chew on the leaves of my houseplants, he has never done that!

Yes, can't wait! I have been schlepping plants around into shelter since we got home this afternoon. Another cold night on tap here . . . Rolling my eyes. Anticipation of a sort I'd rather not experience.

But as I was carefully moving my Rhyn. David Sander along with another hanging plant it nearly poked me in the eye with one of its very long, sharply pointed leaves and I turned it around only to have a flower bud swing by right under my nose! What a treat, this one usually only blooms in summer for me! Hoping very much that it will not blast from the two cold nights it was already exposed to!

Sadly, I did lose all the buds except one on the 'maybe Yellow Bird' on my big raft. A very ratty little flower . .

Around here Laelia anceps is maturing some spikes, Laelia autumnalis var atrorubens bloomed some months ago but decided to throw out another 2 spikes. Schomburgkia superbiens has 7 spikes this year, so far so good.

Well, that's going to be a really wonderful show, Ursula. Especially the Schom with 7 spikes! Yikes.

I'm still waiting on my big Angreacum Crestwood. It's been indoors for weeks to keep warm, and is still moving so slowly on the two spikes, looking more like New Years than Xmas for a bloom.

One of my 'Emerald Isle' plants has three buds (so far) out of the sheath. It is late, and a bit unusual, to have it bloom now, after dividing the "mother" plant (only) 6 weeks ago.

I completely forgot, Tara. I am so sorry. Let's blame it on age - that's a good excuse and I use it more and more often. Whistling

I think I have a very nice one for you but let me check on it in the AM. They have all been re-potted for 6 weeks and that should be plenty of time to see growth/health of the divisions.

I just have to check the weather for shipping opportunities. When I see that "window" coming up, I will let you know. Thumbs up

This anticipation is really killing me. Despite being lavished with TLC and keeping the place of honor in our bathroom, my big Angreacum is moving its buds so slowly! At least when it does finally open, it will be in bloom for a while. Two spikes, and the big one has 4 buds on it.

Little 'bonus' buds today on a Den. Andree Millar that I've had for at least 4 years, has never bloomed before and I was sure was going to die.
