Visual guides are the best of all tools. I especially like it when the subject is clear like this: this is a peony pod, not a peony plant. My grandmother once called me up in frustration over her inability to get any seeds out of her peony. It wasn't a sterile variety, and it bloomed prolifically on healthy foliage, so she wasn't sure why it wasn't producing seed. Turned out, she was harvesting them way too soon, picturing the shriveled, papery husks of dahlias instead of the symmetrically splitting hulls of star anise (the analogy I eventually settled on). This would have been a wonderful picture to send to her.
