Hi,

What is the best way to root green clippings without a "woody" part?

Put them in water to root or put them directly in soil with some root growing hormone on them?

I have done it both ways and it works. For some reason I prefer rooting in water in a glass jar where you can watch the root development.

I just received 3 small clippings by mail(2x Summer Magic and 1x Super Spot).

I put them in water like you suggested, me too I like to watch the roots grow
Planted directly in the soil you can't see if they're rooting or rotting(just a one letter difference )

They're quite little but one has a litlle "woody" part at the bottom so that won't be a problem.

The pictures aren't that sharp but you get an idea of how small they are, curious how much they'll grow next season....

Good luck, @Wimsomnia. I love rooting cuttings during the winter. They're usually ready to plant out when Spring comes, and it gives me something to do during the off season.

The cuttings don't look that small. They should be good. Once they start growing in the spring they grow fast. You can't seem to water them enough at that time. Good luck. Also remember to change the water periodically while they are rooting.
