I can't wait to grow new plants for next year!

I was fortunate to obtain seeds of what was thought to be Salvia rubescens. I was wondering if anyone has grown it out from seeds. I see from online information that it blooms in late summer. I hope it blooms early enough to give forage to our hummingbirds. I wonder if it will get to 4 to 5 feet tall if grown in a container?

I guess I will find out soon. 🙂

@Gerris2,

On the FBTS website, on the cultural icons link, Kermit lists the blooming times as Summer and Fall. https://www.fbts.com/salvia-ru... (scroll down to where you see Cultural Icons)

Growing in a container, it might not get as tall.

@FBTS, would you chime in please?

Yes, for us it blooms early spring and then again in the fall. Many of the South American species have "odd" blooming times in the Northern Hemisphere. They are cyclical growers and bloomers, and the cycles are likely different across the country.

Fast to grow from seed but tricky as it loves water but dies immediately if the soil is saturated.

I must ensure to provide well-draining soil. Thanks again!

It's amazing how such a small seedling can grow into a gigantic plant.

I started them under lights but recently I moved the cup to a windowsill and they're getting indirect sunlight.
