i know i put in some cultivars past letter D, but they don't show anymore. Is there a limit on pages?
can the old pages past 'D' be restored ?

I can't understand how this could happen to you. Maybe you're using the wrong method to search?

Here's the home page of the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Tropical Hibiscuses) database:

The Tropical Hibiscuses Database

If you click on "Browse the full list...," you will arrive on this page.

https://garden.org/plants/brow...

Use the letters at the top to find cultivars alphabetically. All of the letters are there, not just A-D.

Yep, something seems to be amiss: https://garden.org/plants/sear...

The only way I found H. rosa-sinensis 'El Capitolio' was to search for that particular name: https://garden.org/plants/sear...

@dave, the plant search results appear to max out at 1000 results - which is a bit of a problem in this case.

But if you click on any name in those 1,000 results, you'll find a link to the Tropical Hibiscuses Database. I clicked on 'Ankara,' the first item. Look at the link at the top of the entry.

I always search for Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and get every page with cultivars from A to Z but now when I search that name it's only returning 'Ankara' to 'Diamond Man' ... it does not go on from there.

It isn't the A's to the D's. It's in order of popularity. Ankara, the top name in the search results, is not the first rose on the "A" page, and the second through eighth names in those search results start with "L." If you search for the tropical hibiscuses in the Tropical Hibiscuses Database, you'll find more than 13,000 cultivars, from A to Z.

Maybe I'm not communicating correctly? I don't search for Tropical Hibiscus, I search by the name: Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and usually the results for all Hibiscus rosa-sinensis appear. Now when you do a search by the name Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, the results only bring up the following 8 pages (maybe a few hundred): https://garden.org/plants/sear... Why are we not getting results for all of the more than 13,000?

The search caps out at 10 pages (100 results per page) for me, Lin. Hence why I called Dave - perhaps the search result limit has been changed, otherwise I would also expect all 13000+ to show up (spread across however many pages, of course).

This is not new. I remember Dave explaining, a year to two ago, that there had to be a limit on the number of search results, although I haven't been able to find the particular thread where the discussion happened.

Anyway, as zuzu has pointed out a couple of times, if you want to see all 13,000+ cultivars of Tropical Hibiscus, there are far more efficient ways to go about it than typing "Hibiscus rosa-sinensis" into the search box on the Plants Database page. If you go to the custom database for Tropical Hibiscus and click on the "browse the full list..." link at the top of the page, they will all be there, in either alphabetical order or by popularity, whichever you prefer.

The Search by Name does have a 1000 plant limit.

If you want to see the full list of all plants in a genus, then the search by name is not the right place. Instead, do the "Viewing all plants" page like this one:

https://garden.org/plants/brow...

(Cross posted with Kent.)

thanks, i was also using Search by name.
i also searched a particular name or two and for some reason couldn't find them either.
i guess once 1000 entires appear and you put a name past that list it can't find it 'cause it looks only in the list not in the whole DB..
but i didn't know about 1000 limit, will keep it in mind.

i tried again . no matter how and where i type:
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Fifth Dimention'
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis '5th Dimention'
Hibiscus 'Fifth Dimention'
it does not show up, but i looked at the list of the images that i added and i see it there.
i also tried going thru full list page by page to see what shows up around F and i still don't see it.
here's in my image list:
Tropical Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Fifth Dimension')
PID: 102725

Nothing witchy about it. It's not coming up in search results because you're misspelling Dimension as "Dimention."
