Nipponanthemum nipponicum , 2018 photo, Common Name: Montauk Daisy, Nippon Daisy, Size: 2x3ft., 2-3"" white rays w/green center disk, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Michigan Bloom Month 10a, In Garden Bed H1 for 8.0 YEARS (Lowe). Planted in 2010.

Looks like a shasta daisy. Huge plant. Formerly known as Chrysanthemum nipponicum.Early Sept, 2014 and not in bloom yet. Planted in 2010. October bloom. Trim in spring.

This is one huge plant. I might try trimming it to the ground next year. It does bloom late in the season.

Nice summary!!

This is one of my favorite late bloomers! I do cut mine to the ground every spring. When I do, I often make cuttings from the little green sprigs coming out of the dead looking stems. They root very easily in a little pot, no covering or special attention needed other than regular watering. Even with cutting back, they can get big enough to flop in autumn storms, so if you're particular you might want to give them hoop supports.

I guess I haven't quite trimmed mine to the ground, but I do cut them back hard to 2-3 inch stubs.

I do need to get a new one this year. Lost it last year , it was one of the first plants I put in when I bought the house in 1989. Almost 30 years not bad. I used to cut it down to about 1 foot tall.
