I read that many plants we buy are inter species hybrids and they are self sterile and won't produce seeds by themselves.

If I bought another coral bells in any color and placed next to my other, will they both then produce seed?

Will the resulting seedlings be self fertile or sterile?

I have gotten seeds from some hybrids that have been fertile, and some not. From what I remember reading it has to do with the number of chromosomes each parent has.

Since I won't know the chromosomes, is it safe to say I need to cross pollinate two different plants to get fertile seeds?

My understanding is if it's sterile it will not produce viable seed no matter how many crosses you make. It's a mule and will not reproduce.
If you wanting to grow plants from seed you best bet is to let the bees work and harvest any seed you get. Not all the hybrids are sterile.

I grew heuchera from harvested seed from my plants and saw some interesting results. There is a thread on his forum. I'll see if I can find it.

My plant has failed to get seed, all the pods were empty. I did buy another cultivar in hopes next bloom they will cross pollinate

I had a lot of flowers but no seed this year, I know some sterile but I know "Green Spice" is not, they did not have seeds either. I grew 100s of them from seeds 3 years ago. Maybe it is too hot or did not have chance to pollinate? Also I have not seen many bees this year. I may start my own bee hive.
