These Scabiosa caucasica, are 'Fama Deep Blue' but didn't quite meet my expectation of the other much darkerblue, fabulous ones that also grew from Johnny's Seeds. (Otherwise I would have added to the database.) But that's o.k. as I have to sow every couple of years as they don't like long summers , with warm nights & this year it definitely didn't cool off early enough .Enjoy the cool sky blue color anyway.

Very pretty color! Some blue flowers may not be bold in color, but I love them.

Hi Vickie. Several years ago, I had found some at Home Depot. Two of them were bordering on bluish purple. But the drainage couldn't keep up with the snowfall amounts. Sadly they hadn't produced any seeds, either! So it's back to the drawing board & had to sow again, this past autumn. I hope to get some seeds this year. Otherwise, it is much less to purchase seeds of this from Johnny's than anywhere else, that I could see. Shawn

Vickie, I don't know if you have an extended spring time, or not but its a whole lot less expensive, buy seeds! Johnny's Select is a great price. I am not certain that you may easily find it, even at a garden center. Probably online, of small potted plants is best & attempt to get on sale, before sold out. Otherwise, it is seeds sowed in the autumn....(They do not like hot humid summers) Shawn

Shawn, I am not sure scabiosa would be a good plant for southern Indiana then. We have hot, humid summers a lot.

Not sure if you collect acorns here on NGA, but those pics would be a great addition to the database and it is sorely lacking information about 'fama deep blue':

Hi Vickie. Thanks for the tip. I suppose I could go ahead & add it, if a photo isn't there... I usually start it by seeds in late summer, into early autumn & then treat it as a short lived perennial. Sometimes they actually make it, through summer. But if it stays too warm, too long into the autumn, without any cooler nights, then it just can't really be helped. Just one of those things, about climate, or weather conditions. Not always that predictable...If I were up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it would be a little different, than being near the beach!

I think it was a name change, to Lomelosia, whatever that is...

@BrownJames. There are some with even better shades of blue that are much darker than this. I prefer them to be much darker blue ! There used to be a cultivar, spelled Ultraviolet', I think, which darkened as the bloom aged, but can't seem to locate it any more, for possible cross pollination.
I had grown it a couple of times, but unfortunately did not produce any seeds. They are actually rather easy to germinate, in warmth, as long as it isn't sown too deeply, or overwatered.
