Was at HD earlier and saw that the Amaryllis were 50% off. They were the 3 usual suspects: Red Lion, Minerva and Apple Blossom. Mostly out of curiosity I was poking around, trying to look inside the boxes without tearing up said boxes.
I had to pull one bulb out because it looked surreal. After I snapped to I realized that the mothership had produced a bulblet and that the bulblet had a very long stem to it. Maybe 4" long. Very pale. Wish I'd at least taken a picture. Too late to go back tonight as HD closes at 10. I think if it's still there tomorrow I might buy it for $3.50. Or at least snap a picture of it. It's not as if I really need another plant.
Coincidentally, there was a woman there unpacking plants. She works for a vendor, not HD. We were talking and I told her about the bulbs coated in wax. She hadn't seen them but thought it was criminal. And then I discovered the bulb with what l think is a bulblet. She said she'd never seen anything like it and was as surprised as me.
