@blue23rose - we had to have all but one 55 year old spruces taken down on Jan. 14th. It was agony watching it happen but they were not looking good anymore. One more in the front also had to go.

Though he tried to make a bench for me, it ended up a huge slab atop a stump, but it's much too high to use as a bench. I may have the piece moved and placed on cinder blocks so I can use it elsewhere.

I did take a few pieces to protect clematis roots.

They did do a good job cleaning up but spring will mean lots more picking up sticks for me. They gave me many bags of chips so the asparagus garden now has the paths mulched and the berry row is done.
