I can see why they had to go. How sad. How massive! They really had a trunk on them.
Last year my lovely ''Emarald'' Arborvitaes had to go too. It was a bear digging them out and I miss the privacy, but I gained 4' x 8' of garden. I only had four trees.

The only plans I have so far, is to have the DH build a small raised bed. I want to can carrots and our garden dirt is too rocky. If I like it, I will have him make a few more. The idea is also not to dig into the apple tree roots next to the garden.
