Can't say. I don't want to stress it out too much, but I'm a mile from the ocean and it's a new deck so I'm assuming it's pretty sound. I think I would probably rest the bulk of the weight of a scaffold on the deck surface and use the railing just to help keep it upright. Hmmm... Hmmmmmmmm... You guys have provided my brain with great kindling.
