a few years ago, the ice destroyed my HUGE birch that shaded the front. All the ferns and shade loving plants burned and or struggled...had to revamp everything....got a small forest pansy in its place. Even the manmade stream grows algae now in the sun! What a rude awakening it was that morning. But the upside is that I am not picking up piles of birch sticks and the poop from the caterpillars that ate the leaves is all gone.
