Gary - I strongly recommend taking the time to take regular pictures of your collection. It does take a bit of time, mostly naming the pictures for future reference, but I have found the pictures very, very valuable. They give me a record of the growth progression of the plants. I've also noticed reverting/sporting eyes when looking at pictures that I had overlooked entirely when in the garden. Ditto for problems with the hostas. And finally, if markers go astray, they provide vital clues as to what the hosta is by studying what's around it. That's also valuable if you move hostas late in the season and can't remember where in the spring.
