I now know my limits sailing. A bunch of us rented a house at Tahoe and a 40-50 ft sailboat. Can't remember the length but it easily fit about 8 - 10 of us. If you know lake sailing the weather, wind and water can change quickly. My X and another guy, both quite experienced sailors, were doing the sailing. My X was a good sailor but you basically don't trust someone it's hard to feel confident. Anyway, we hit water and wind. I held on to those railing handles on top of the cabin area and screamed the entire time. I was certain we were going to flip over.
Used to go out on the SF Bay on a Force 50 with a real sailor and his wife who did Transpac, Hawaii, Tahiti many, many times and did a lot better as a passenger.
Not sure I'll try it again just so I don't get stuck on a boat with a bunch of people who'd want to throw me overboard without a life preserver.
