GrannyMarie said:Hello everyone! I am new to snake plants and am researching to find out how best to keep my new Sansevieria trifasciata healthy and happy. I read in one of the posts in this thread that it's good to repot a new snake plant in a cactus type mix. Should all the 'store soil' be discarded or should I mix some of it with the cactus mix? Also how should I water when replanting? She's going to be an inside houseplant and is living on the second shelf of my under window plant stand out of direct light. It's a west window so gets strong light in the afternoon which brings me to my next question, can I let my snake plant get any of the direct afternoon light and if so, for how long? Thanks!

I am amazed perusing this thread and seeing all the different varieties of snake plants! Now I want more!

Welcome! @GrannyMarie, I too am new to snakes but not new to ATP. They are amazing little plants and I am also looking forward to learning more about them.

Gene, you sound like you are a real professional grower and collector of these plants. I am sure we will be able to learn something from you. My passion over the years has changed from time to time but there is something about the snake plant that interests me. I have propagated and grown gardenias, jasmine, bougainvillea and mandevilla plus schlumbergera , streptocarpus, to name a few. I have a few Epis... having said that, I still have so much to learn about so many of these plants people don't usually think of as "special" houseplants. Looking forward to your pictures and posts.
I am really anxious to hear about the flowers and the fragrances, if any.
