A death in the family -- the dear other's mom whom I've known for some 25 years -- led to comfort food. (The death was expected, grace-filled, and in chosen place: a comfortable house in the far reaches of Cuba.) Short ribs, done with thyme, rosemary and oregano from the garden among the spices, low and slow with the requisite onion, carrots, celery, and some green pepper. Dripping off the bone and served over egg noodles.
Good bread and wine on the side.
"A good meal brings comfort to the heart and helps heal the wounds that moan deep in the soul." You can quote me on that.
