Yes, I live in Phoenix and purslane loves the heat. It also loves the sun and not shade though. I discovered this when I placed some purslane facing east and it didn't get all day sun.

It's really an annual but many of us are fortunate in pushing it to keep growing another season. As for me, I've never had a basket last more than a full year cycle but it does show up in the ground sometimes for years.
