Where you live in the global hemisphere would be helpful to know, and also which direction your balcony is facing: north, south, east or west?

That said though, as long as your plants are getting a minimum of 4 hours direct sunlight and lots of bright light, they should do quite well on a balcony. I think @Gerris2 grows his plants on a balcony and could give you more informed information.
