My DH bought me some nice, smaller by-pass pruners from our local Ace Hardware store. I have a problem with the spread on the regular ones as well. Here's a pic that shows the difference in size:

The new ones are in the middle. They work pretty well, but won't handle anything very big.
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.
