I'm hoping you're still around on this site so I can put my 2 cents in on this thread - eventhough I'm a year and a half late.
Was given some triple l seeds few years back but was reluctant to plant them because of their size potential and I wasn't sure I'd like them, I'm more of a paste fan, also I mostly garden like I hunt; only what I'm going to eat. But after putting up my garden fence and using the extra poles for the 6 foot wide entrance, that I connected with rebar and cover with 4 inch concrete mesh, I needed SOMETHING to cover it with, so I thought ' what the heck ' and gave them a shot. Out of the six I ended up with I gave 5 away and planted the one I had in a 55 gal. barrel cut in half ( does that make it a 27 and a half ? ) filled with compost. The result was a nearly completely shaded trellis but a plant that only gave 3 (
) not very good flavored fruit.
I've checked this out online and apparently these thing grow best in places that are NOT IN MY YARD but I did like its growing habits and because of some things said about my dislike for hornworms, I let them move into what became their triple l home. Seriously, I did get a lot of blooms on the danged thing but they resulted in them falling of after pollination. Maybe its because of the strange summer we had here too cold at first then record heat less than a month later.
Did you end up trying them? If so how'd they do?
