@MISSISNGROSIE Just found this thread about your maiden voyage into the world of RVing. I am sure all of us have had those first trip adventures but you will get the hang of it. I vividly remember the trip we took to California and my misadventures in directing DH into a very tight campsite and ripping the back bumper loose when it caught on a shrub. We even had walkie-talkies to communicate. This was before the days of backup cameras.
Regarding campgrounds, etc., we love the west and spent a lot of time in the four corners area several times in past years. One year before our trip we had heard on TV that "the Code Talker" had died. We were saddened to hear this, but when we arrived at the Cortez, CO campground we were happy to find that indeed, there was still a Code Talker alive, and had a presentation every week at the local welcome center. We heard his story on two occasions when we were in the area. That was several years ago and possibly he has passed on, however, hearing his story was very interesting.
Canyon de Chelly is another interesting place to visit. The top of the mesa is open to visit, however, to go into the canyon, one must have a native American guide. We toured the canyon on two separate occasions and both times were fun. There is a gift shop at the park entrance and I usually come away with a lovely piece of turquoise jewelry.
Mesa Verde is also one of our favorites. There is also more of the park which wasn't sold to the government and is owned by the Ute Mountain Utes. This is also only available through native American guides.
