We had choice in our house: Take IT or Leave IT
and we cleaned our plates of the first helping of whatever we we having before we could ask for seconds. My brothers were fast eaters so they got more food than I did. They have both tended to put on weight while I have remained on the slim side. We ate whatever we were served. Desserts were rare events. Being on the 'make ends meet' side of economy meant few food choices and meat was what we raised hunted or fished. Likewise veggies and fruits came from our garden, fruit trees and wild foraging. A very additive free diet!
One of the things that irks me about helping out with the grandkids is that they have been raised with 24/7 open diner and are 'picky eaters' to boot!
Currently the two items all members will eat are pizza and black bean quesedeas.
