Liz, I'm sorry, I had a taste of what you're going through, with a pine tree that someone else had planted too close to our house before it was our house. In my experience, every hardship is both a teaching and learning experience, so I hope you'll take comfort in knowing that you've been given the chance to plant the correct native plant at your residence to show how it's supposed to be done, and that you'll take every opportunity to let everyone, their dog and their Uncle Billy know that that beautiful saguaro had to go because of someone else's ignorance, stupidity and/or arrogance.
"Every now and then I leave the book on the seat and go and have a refreshing potter among my flower beds from which I return greatly benefited, and with a more just conception of what is worth bothering about, and what is not." The Solitary Summer -- Elizabeth von Arnim
