Kristi, we finally getting a little rain, just a heavy drizzle enough to drive me inside but not enough to do the plants much good. Any how I have some time on my hands. The Arbor Gate is very comprehensive. Remember I am a traditionalist, I do use machines instead of horses, but otherwise not much different from the methods used by my grandparents. All natural, I make no attempt to alter the environment to suit the plants. I have a 250 day frost free season.
January- I rarely plant anything. Harvest: carrots, collards, kale, broccoli, sometimes cauliflower and cabbage.
February- Plant Irish potatoes, spinach, English peas. Start: ( in coldframe) Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower,Lettuce ( Bibb, iceberg, Romaine) Harvest: continue with carrots, collards.
March- Plant English peas, beets, kohlrabi, pak choi, salad radishes. Transplant : cabbage, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower. start: sweet potatoes ( Cold frame) Tomatoes , peppers eggplants (indoors) Harvest : not much in March. overwintered brassicas are bolting. May pull an occasional onion.
April- Plant corn,beans, melons, squash, cucumbers. Transplant: sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant. Harvest: Lettuce, English peas, spinach, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower.
May- Plant second corn, snap beans, pole beans, limas, southern peas, okra, edamame. Transplant additional sweet potatoes. Harvest: broccoli, cabbage, onions, summer squash, snap beans, Irish potatoes, beets
June- Plant followup beans, limas, southern peas; Harvest: corn, snap beans, summer squash, Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant cucumber.
July- follow up planting, southern peas, limas. harvest: Melons, corn, snap beans, summer squash, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, okra.
August- start collard, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Chinese cabbage. Plant late snap beans,rutabaga, turnips, mustards. Harvest: southern peas, lima beans, okra, winter squash and whatever survived the July heat.
September; Start onions. Plant turnips, kale, mustard, radishes, winter radishes. Transplant: collards, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Chinese cabbage. Harvest; peppers, eggplant, turnips (greens), mustard, beans, limas.
October- Plant turnip, mustard, kale. Transplant: collards, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage.
Harvest: turnips, mustard, radishes, peppers ,eggplants, sweet potatoes, limas, southern peas.
November: Plant English peas. Harvest: collards, peppers, eggplant, broccoli , cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, cabbage, sweet potatoes winter radishes.
December- Transplant onions. Harvest: collard, broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, mustard, cabbage.
