Friends,

I am also looking for seeds of this variety. I have seeds from a cross of this variety with “Citron Melon”, but no longer have pure seeds of “Schochler”. In the 50’s and 60’s my family was in the watermelon rind pickling business selling rinds in salt brine for further processing into pickles by northeastern pickling companies. We used Schochler as the primary melon variety for this business. I do have some pictures of the enormous melons we used to grow.

Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sorry, I haven't checked in for a while. I grew "Schochler" in 2015, so the seeds I'm offering would have been for 2016. Seeds were purchased from Baker Creek and grew true to type. No problems with any disease and they were grown in isolation. Several local people made pickles from them and they were excellent.

Growing Tips: I planted on 7' rows with 8' between hills. 4 seeds per hill and thin to strongest 2 when they have true leaves. If you are growing in the south, when the fruit are 8 - 10 inches long cover the tops with straw to prevent sunscald. Sunscald won't harm them for pickles but will make them unmarketable for fresh watermelons.

SEED OFFER: PM your address to me and I'll send packets of 30 or 50 seeds free of charge. Please specify which amount you need in the PM.

This is a general offer and will remain open until I post it closed. Claud
