Thanks Gayle.
BTW, I may have sounded blunt in my last post. That was not my intention. I was in a rush so didn't have time to temper it so as not to come off as harsh.
Still in a rush..... Sighing!

I was disheartened though to see an internet myth promulgated on the government website linked above. This glared out at me immediately:
"It is found mainly in foods but may also be in other products like medicines, vitamins and supplements, lip balm, and even the glue on stamps and envelopes."
The first part is true but the part about the glue on stamps & envelopes is not. To see such misinformation on the National Institute of health website makes me groan in dismay. This is a perfect example of "just because you read it on the internet, doesn't mean it's true". This serves as a reminder to us all to fact check with multiple reliable sources.
The gf diet is hard enough to learn & every celiac knows how much one can freak out when you are first dx'd. It's like your world has been turned topsy turvy, you don't know what you can safely eat & then you read things that are blatantly false but you don't know it b/c you're a newbie & it scares the pants off you. I am a member on a good, reliable celiac forum & so often this very subject comes up where newbies are losing it b/c they read stuff like this & are afraid to eat or touch anything. So let me address this particular falsehood.

DEBUNKING THE MYTH:
This is the Envelope Manufacturers Assoc. FAQ's page:
http://www.envelope.org/faq
It says:
Is there Gluten in envelope adhesives? -
Remoistenable adhesives are derived from corn starch and do not contain wheat or rye gluten.

U of Chicago Celiac Disease Center:
http://www.cureceliacdisease.o...

A thread from the celiac forum I mentioned earlier. A lot of humor thrown in on that thread as well. A combo informative/fun thread.
https://www.celiac.com/gluten-...

And finally, this. The Gluten Free Dietician - Tricia Thompson MS, RD. Tricia has celiac herself, is astoundingly knowledgable and is perhaps the greatest advocate we celiacs have. What an amazing lady! If she says it, you can take it to the bank!!! The page I'm linking addresses not only the glue issue but quite a few others.

She has another website called The Gluten Free Watchdog which I will link to here:

If anyone feels of a mind to help us out concerning enforcing labeling laws, it doesn't cost anything & will take just a few minutes of your time to copy & paste a comment or make your own brief comment to the FDA. Your identifying info. will not be made public. The gluten free community appreciates your help.

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown
