McCannon said:I've been through a couple "direct hit" hurricanes in Florida, including "Donna" in 1960, that came ashore near Naples with winds in the 150+ range. If I were living anywhere near the coast, withe this hurricane, I'd already be sitting in a hotel somewhere near or north of Atlanta.
Um yeah!
We have friends staying down there too. A neighbor in our old neighborhood is an occupational therapist & she has to work. Generally she has to go to hospitals & lend a hand doing whatever is needed. She knows our door is open if the situation changes. Her boyfriend has to go to work asap when the storm is over. Another couple - she is like a sister to us - her hubs is staying in their home right on the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter and I have no idea why. She will stay there too if the storm is a 3 or 4 but if it's a 5, she will go to her DD & SIL's home west of there - they have a hurricane "safe room" in their house. Course, it floods out there like crazy......
@gardenglory Pam, yes, we are in the bullseye in this latest track. Supposed to be a Cat. 1 though when it gets this far. Not worried about any trees on the house excepting 1 & that's the huge sycamore. We wanted to get the tree surgeon to it for a couple months now but with as much rain as we had, that heavy truck they would need to use, would get bogged down in the area they need to put it to do their work. Other than that, I could wish we had a metal roof but we do have architectural shingles, 16 yrs. old & they are guaranteed for 40 years. Last house we had 3 tab shingles & they were 20 yrs. old when Frances hit. A cat. 1 should be fine for us.
The track will shift again & again yet. We have a ways to go yet.
I see in my county website they are saying I-75 is open to traffic both ways.
Can't understand people staying in south FL, really can't. Storm surge is going to be massive. Heck, these people got terribly flooded with Matthew & Matthew didn't even travel on land except one place it bumped on & then off again.
