I'd say the average UK temperature in winter is 25 - 36F. We get occasional freezes and some snow but often have relatively mild winters. (Living in Maine was a total shock for me!)
These pots certainly do stay in situ throughout winter. The bulbs are planted around November and the crocuses usually appear in March as in this photo.
