Hello Christine, I really don't know why your vine is no producing fruit.
I seem to recall that mine didn't either the first year, maybe it needs to be more mature before it does.
Ours does fruit well now, but it is not a big seed producer, most of the fruits are empty and some only have one seed.
The vine is root hardy here in 8b so yours will probably come back from the roots. You might want to mulch the roots for insurance.
It is such a lovely vine, ours has surprised us and popped up in different places.
